Myers-Briggs Comes to Manufacturing-Works
Added June 18th, 2009
Jackson-based trainer and facilitator Frances VanHouten, principal of RainMaker
Coaching and affiliate with Manufacturing-Works,
was certified to administer and interpret the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) during training and examinations in
San Diego last week. The MBTI is a widely used personality inventory used in team-building, career-development and executive
coaching to identify innate personality preferences and tendencies.
“Many of the frustrations of work life are caused by our differences. We think everyone is like us,” laughs VanHouten. “Knowing one’s own personality preferences allow a person to build on their strengths and adapt to knit with the team.” The MBTI can be a powerful tool for personal and team development. By giving people an increased understanding of their own preferences and behaviors they can work together more effectively.
“Much of our work is focused on continuous improvement,” reflects Larry Stewart, Executive Director of Manufacturing-Works. “We help businesses introduce lean processes; we improve workplace safety performance and we coach businesses through innovation and product development processes. We know that when you do things the same old way, you get the same results, and it can be easy to fall back into the same old habits. If we can introduce changes that work better for the individuals involved, it’s more likely the change will stick. Having the MBTI in our toolkit strengthens our ability to serve our clients.” The MBTI can be administered in-person or on-line.
