Blue Beanie Day 2009 – Show your support for web standards
November 30th, 2009
Today, November 30th, 2009, is Blue Beanie Day. Web designers and coders around the world are donning their blue beanies in support of Web Standards.
You're probably wondering "what are web standards?" Basically it is using standard code and coding techniques that anyone implement to build your website. Without these standards it takes more time to build and edit your site. These standards also make it easier for your website to be viewed in the variety of browsers out there (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari), as well as phones (iPods, Blackberries). It also allows those with disabilities a better chance of navigating your site successfully using assistive technology.
Basically is just a good idea and it's not that hard to do! There are many other advantages of using web standards. If you're curious if your site is designed with these standards contact Stan Grabowski (spamley@uwyo.edu or 307.766.2817) and he'll be happy to go through your site with you.
