The Wyoming Business Council and the University of Wyoming’s Manufacturing-Works Program announced the creation of the Wyoming Innovation Marketplace (WIM), a program by the National Institute of Standards and Technology/Manufacturing Extension Partnership, which is part of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
The WIM will be tied to the USA National Innovation Marketplace (NIM) and will allow Wyoming innovators to create technology and business ideas, communicate those ideas on a national level and commercialize their products or services.
“This is great news for Wyoming’s innovators, inventors and small-business incubators,” Governor Dave Freudenthal said. “Folks in Wyoming have great ideas and they’re hard workers, and this will give them a competitive edge,” Freudenthal said.
In addition, Wyoming’s marketplace is receiving assistance from Eureka! Ranch, a nationally recognized innovation, research and development firm, based in Newtown, Ohio. Eureka! Ranch specializes in the commercialization of intellectual property and will be working closely with the University of Wyoming.
Wyoming will be just one of five states that have an innovation marketplace. Other universities utilizing the NIM for intellectual property commercialization are The Ohio State University, Florida State University, the University of Louisville, the University of Maine and the University of Pittsburgh.
“By increasing the success of Wyoming businesses, entrepreneurs and the commercialization of UW Intellectual Property, we will help to increase wealth here in Wyoming, create new jobs and maintain existing jobs,” said Larry Ray Stewart, CEO and Founder of Manufacturing –Works.
The WIM will require no state funding to launch, since significant funding has been obtained through anonymous donors. Manufacturing-Works in conjunction with state and local partners will work for participation from businesses, higher education labs, innovators, investors and inventors across the state.
The program will also allow Wyoming citizens to connect with buyers, sellers, manufacturers and distributors, and investors on a state, national and global basis.
“We’re excited about this new opportunity to create innovative new jobs,” said Bob Jensen, CEO, Wyoming Business Council. “This program will contribute to our mission of helping Wyoming businesses and communities build places where people want to live, work and play.
The WIM will support deeper knowledge and infrastructure for world class training and education of businesses and entrepreneurs including the Innovation Engineering Leadership Institute which will be held August 25-28, 2010, in Casper, Wyoming.
