Experience

Design and permitting for confined animal feeding operations (CAFO), including dairies.Generalized site plans and including engineered plans and specifications for animal containment, flood protection, and waste management. Development of nutrient management plans (NMP) for utilization of solid and liquid animal wastes. NMP provides broad guidance in soils testing, crop rotation planning, composting, and waste utilizations. Designs and plans meeting state (DEQ) and federal (EPA) permitting requirements.

Design of spray systems for odor mitigation in value-added manufacturing industries such as hog or livestock barns, and food processing plants. Odor mitigation strategies including management changes, operational changes, structures, and high pressure spray (fogging) systems.

Develop farm production plans and assist farmers and ranchers in the issuance of certified organic production. Provide guidance for the conversion from conventional to USDA “organic” requirements. Provide labeling, packaging, and impact techniques to compete smart and market effectively.

Technical assistance on design of mobile meat slaughter plants, wool processing plants, seed cleaning and packaging operations, and automation of crop growing, harvesting, and packaging.

Development of storm-water drainage plans for manufacturing facilities, for compliance to state regulation. Surveying, mapping, flood routing, and emergency response procedures addresed.

Technical analysis and recommendations for waste or byproduct utilization. For example, a sawmill using outdated burning of wood waste in a tipi burner was in violation of air quality requirements and viewed as a “bad neighbor” by a growing municipality. We evaluated operation and found a “least cost” solution using application of waste to abandoned mine lands.

Surveying, mapmaking, and plant layout using AutoCad and GPS (survey grade) equipment, including creating topographic maps, stake out of buildings, locating and stakeout of infrastructure, and floor plans inside the building envelope. Floor plans including layout based upon LEAN principles such as cellular, and optimization of flow (throughput).

Hydrologic analysis of streams for bridge crossings and pipeline crossing.

Structural steel design (beams and columns or simple structures).

Patent drawings and assistance to inventors, particularly with agricultural implements or feeders.

AutoCad drawings of machine parts and molds for parts in plastic, rubber, glass, and electrical schematics. Experience with english and metric units in various scales and formats.

Design and construction supervision of small scale renewable energy systems-wind and solar. Analysis of energy production potential based upon site characteristics and data available.
